How about a little hump...just for the fun of it!
I believe that writing should be fun...fun for me as I'm writing, and fun for the reader, too. So, for today's Hump-Day Hook, I'm reaching back to a story I thoroughly enjoyed putting together. It's The Wrong Woman, a light-hearted tale about a luckless fellow who intends to abduct his brother's fiance, but who winds up kidnapping the wrong woman. Instead of Honey Branson, he steals Abigail Rose away from the depot that morning.
Here's a brief introduction to Abigail. By the way, she's wearing her late auntie's eyeglasses, and she can't see a thing with them on.
Enjoy!
Abigail lifted her chin and gave a nod of approval to her blurry image in the mirror. The spectacles were in place. Her drab gray bonnet neatly covered her honey blonde curls, and her traveling suit was practical and modest. No, her sins were not visible. She appeared to be every inch the innocent schoolteacher she professed to be.
Ha! Loved that last line! I'm def hooked!
ReplyDeleteGreat hook. I could picture it in my head.
ReplyDeleteGreat set up, love the idea. Well, she'll definitely be more than he bargained for!
ReplyDeleteAnd appearances can be deceiving. ;) Great hook!
ReplyDeleteGreat hook, but now I have to know why he wanted to kidnap his brother's fiancee!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - she can't see properly, this sounds hilarious! I am intrigued :)
ReplyDeleteHmm, I wonder what she's trying to hide? I'm hooked!
ReplyDeleteA recipe for disaster :-)
ReplyDeleteAn enticing mystery, I love it!
ReplyDeleteCute hook! And nice little description of this luckless, bungling abductor! I'm really curious as to why he'd want to kidnap his brother's fiancee, and why Abigail is hiding behind the classic school marm look...
ReplyDeletethat does sound like a fun story! good hook! :) C.
