Thank You!

As a writer, I’m not often at a loss for words. Give me a paper and pencil, or put me in front of a blank computer screen, and I can spend hours blissfully stringing sentences together. I’ve never been particular about subject matter. Throw me a topic, and I’ll
  • (a) write what I know,
  • (b) discuss what I don’t know, or
  • (c) make something up as I go along.

You want five hundred words? A thousand? Child’s play. Words are toys. I love figuratively picking them up, turning them over, tossing them around, building them up, tearing them apart, and wringing every possible drop of emotion and meaning from them.

Today, however, as I sat down to write this post, I found myself staring off into the distance, unable to put together a single coherent thought. My intention was to write a brief “thank you”, to express my appreciation for the men and women of our United States Armed Forces.

As I contemplated the sacrifices they have made, the victories they have achieved for our nation, and the losses they have suffered, I struggled to find words. Although words can be very powerful, they have their limitations. At times, words fall woefully short. No matter what I might write, my words today would be inadequate. There simply are no words that can convey the profound gratitude I feel for our servicemen and servicewomen, both at home and abroad, both those who are fighting for our country now, as well as those who have gone before.

In the end, I am left with only two words. Thank you.

If you would like to show your support for our Armed Forces, please post your personal "thank you" below. As part of the "Wounded Warrior - Christmas is a Time for Giving" blog-hop, I have pledged a donation to Wounded Warriors. I hope you will join me.
